The MotoGP season is about to start. The countdown is really slow, and each of the drivers is enjoying this moment before the World Cup hustle in their own way. Some do it by traveling, others by riding a bicycle… And others don’t get off a motorcycle even with a jug of cold water.

This is the case of Pedro Acosta and Álex Rins. The two Spaniards have traveled to the last stage of the season to enjoy a day of testing on their superbikes prepared for the circuit. At the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia the #37 and #42 have also shared the track with other drivers.

Both riders were riding a Yamaha R1. It is less surprising in the case of Álex Rins, who is an official pilot for the tuning fork brand. This is not the case with Pedro Acosta. The Tiburón de Mazarrón, now a pilot for the KTM GASGAS satellite structure, got on his particular R1 faired in the Red Bull colorsexactly the same as the livery he used in the Moto2 team with which he was world champion.

Really The R1 is not new for Acosta. The Murcian rider has been riding Iwata’s superbike since he was 16 years old, as we have already mentioned on other occasions. He knows her perfectly, and she is an excellent training machine on a World Cup track like Ricardo Tormo.

For his part, Álex Rins also enjoyed the particularities of the Japanese R1. A change compared to Honda’s Fireblade, a superbike that delivered 214 HP and electronics derived from the MotoGP RC213V and that it had been using since the beginning of 2023 due to the Suzuki change. He then also trained with a GSX-R 1000 R, so this is his third Japanese superbike.

We have been able to see more in depth what Rins’ R1 looks like, which still wears a black fairing, but the tank decorated with the Yamaha Monster livery. A beast whose sound is unmistakable and emanates from the 998 cc engine, with its crossplane type crankshaft (CP4) and its non-uniform ignition sequence at 270º-180º-90º-180º. A beast that produces 200 HP at 13,500 revolutions.

Well They both enjoyed a splendid day in Valencia, where the sun accompanied from sunrise to sunset. We do not know with certainty the times that both set with the street sports shoes because it was a private test, but we do know that they were accompanied by other young drivers such as Alex Escrig or Jorge Navarro.

From Cheste to Sepang. There is much less left to travel to Malaysia, where the preseason will officially open with the first shakedown, scheduled for February 1 to 3. Presumably both Acosta and Rins will be there. Acosta because he is a ‘rookie’, and Rins because he will benefit from Yamaha’s concessions, which includes bringing official riders to the test; Specifically, it will be there for the last two days, from February 2 to 3.
