The underground variant that connects Altza with Pasajes and Galtzaraborda reaches its equator

Euskal Trenbide Sarea has already reached the halfway point of the underground variant that it runs between Altza and Galtzaraborda that will ensure that the station in the San Sebastian neighborhood of Altza stops being a bottom of the bag and becomes a pass through of the Topo line, by being linked to the town of Pasajes.

With the construction of the section between Altza and Galtzaraborda, two kilometers long, the double-track railway variant that in September 2016 took El Topo from Herrera to Altza is completed. With its commissioning, the Topo will be able to offer 7.5 minute frequencies to users of Pasajes and Galtzaraborda. The new Pasai Antxo underground station will be located under the plaza adjacent to Gure Zumardia Street.

The access will be located on Eskalantegi street and the elevator, in the same square, next to the church. The emergency exit will be located around Hamarretxea street. The configuration is of side platforms, although the stairs of these lead to a single hall, from which there is access to the street. The two platforms will also be connected to the concourse by an elevator.

Diversion of goods to the railway

On the other hand, at the end of last year ETS put out to tender the access and penetration works in metric railway gauge to the Port of Pasajes. The objective of this project is to recover the interconnection in Guipzcoa between the maritime mode and the rail mode in metric gauge. This initiative will allow some goods to be diverted to rail and thus reduce road truck traffic. One of the main beneficiaries of the conversion of the Port of Pasajes into a new logistics node of the Basque railway network for the transport of goods will be the town of Pasaia Antxo.
