Two nil for PSG in the first half. Two nil for Brest in the second half. So 2-2 final for a match certainly not to remember. At least for PSG in the evening not as much as Mbappé, a listless, imprecise captain, never in the match and therefore also punished for a reaction foul despite the captain’s armband. Therefore the goals are not scored by the champion, but by Asensio and Kolo Muani, no less a shadow of himself. But they were not enough to avoid the comeback that Brest, surprisingly third, achieved with an own goal from Pereira and a great back-heel goal from Pereira-Lage, the only spark of a match where the difference was seen in disorderly individual ideas and not by certainly for game identity.

trim

Two nil at the end of the first half, therefore, and it is almost surprising given the general attitude on the pitch. Brest lined up with an orderly 4-3-3, as usual, PSG with an anomalous 4-3-3, as usual. In fact, for Lucho there is no concept of a fixed position and even the distribution of roles does not follow typical profiles. Zaire-Emery therefore finds himself playing right back again, in place of Asensio, this time employed as a left midfielder, with the freedom to act as an attacking midfielder, adapting, like Barcola as a left winger, to the movements of Mbappé, captain in place of Marquinhos left on the bench. In defence, in fact, Luis Enrique prefers not so much Pereira, now a stable out-of-role player, but the new signing Beraldo who, however, soon moves to left-back in place of Hernandez, who takes center stage. But both the Frenchman and the Brazilian have free rein to move up to fill the midfield and bring the pressure high on the holder. In short, only the wingers Barcola and Kolo-Muani, preferred to Dembélé, have clear positions with defensive tasks like Ruiz, in playmaking.

gol

Objective: not to give points of reference to your opponents. But Brest did not allow themselves to be hypnotized and in some moments even allowed themselves dribbling phases, alternating with more spontaneous counterattacks. The opportunities, on one side as on the other, are predictable or imprecise. Like those that happen to Vitinha, at the start (4′): high. Or in the final (43′), just a breath away. In the middle there is a thrill for Donnarumma, attentive to Del Castillo’s free-kick from the right (28′), as he was on a close-range header from Le Douaron, from the other side (19′). Or there is PSG’s opening goal, scored by Asensio, scored by Barcola after a good control of the chest and head (38′). The Spaniard volleys left-footed, closing diagonally. A first thrust, after useless skirmishes and a lot of listless play. The doubling, however, is almost a photocopy: from the left, Barcola again with a touch to insert Asensio. This time the diagonal is fouled by Bizot, but Kolo Muani comes in and anticipates Locko and doubles the score (45′).

gollonzo and gollazzo

And Mbappé in all this? Not much. Actually, nothing. Lazy, not very incisive, imprecise. Of course, the champion starts the doubling, but with a banal support. Instead he fired a couple of shots (9′ and 13′, but also 22′), and when he returned in the second half he immediately went into a rage. In the 9th minute sparks fly with Lala who tugs at him in the middle of the pitch, and he gets a yellow card for a reaction foul. Nervousness that is transmitted to the rest of the team who concedes the goal 1′ later. Gollonzo, more than anything else: Del Castillo invents a precarious dribble in the area which turns into an assist for Camara who mocks Donnarumma with a deflection from Pereira. He more deserved Lees-Melou’s angled shot shortly before (8′), which was dived away by the Italian. However, the other Pereira takes the whole show, Lage who in the 35th minute shows off a refined heel at the near post, coming in from the right, cutting diagonally through the entire home defense, to collect Satriano’s precise suggestion from the left. In the final, Barcola gets sent off for a quick double yellow card, sealing the bad night. At least Farioli is smiling as with his Nice team, thanks to the 1-0 win over Metz on Saturday, they gained two points from Luis Enrique’s band of misfits.
