The Spanish Confederation of Alzheimer’s and other Dementias (CEAFA), in order to raise awareness about this disease among the youngest, has created the first immersive Alzheimer’s simulator in Fortnite. This has been tested live by different professional gamers.

The Spanish Confederation of Alzheimer’s and other Dementias (CEAFA) has created, in collaboration with Momentum Spain, the first immersive simulator of a disease. Thus, a new map has been built within the Fortnite video game that allows players to feel the symptoms of the disease firsthand.
The entity is dedicated to raising awareness about Alzheimer’s among young people and this is one of the initiatives to achieve this.
The video game is called “Lost In The World” and is now available openly so that everyone can play and perceive for a few minutes what the life of Alzheimer’s patients is like. The game character will suffer symptoms such as disorientation, memory lapses, and dissociation from time and space.
“They say it’s impossible to know what it feels like to have an illness until you suffer from it. Fortnite gives us the possibility of recreating worlds, interacting with them and, in this case, creating for the first time an immersive simulator of a disease,” explains Rodrigo González, executive creative director at Momentum Spain.
Contributing gamers
With the aim of promoting the Fortnite Alzheimer’s simulator, six Spanish gamers have collaborated. Among them are @Blachitoo, @Mrkeroro10, @Leviathan, @Irenefields, @Sophia and @Gladoop. In total, an audience of 6.8 million followers.
They were the first to test the new map. They did not know what they were facing and all the reactions and experiences they had when facing a character with the symptoms of an Alzheimer’s patient are genuine and are captured in the video.

How is the game?
“This simulator, incorporated into the Fortnite game, aims to offer players an immersive experience that simulates the challenges and difficulties suffered by people living with Alzheimer’s. Integrating this experience in a virtual environment followed by young people helps generate greater awareness and empathy towards people affected by the disease. There is no doubt that this initiative will break down stigmas, foster understanding and motivate young people to get involved in this cause,” they state from neck.
As can be seen in the video, the different ‘gamers’ realize while they are playing that something is happening to their character. Little by little, they react to the different symptoms.
At the end, the following message appears in the simulator: “What you have experienced is not a programming error. It is the world in which Alzheimer’s patients live every day.” Everyone shows their surprise and recognizes that it is a very good way to raise awareness among young people, who perhaps do not have this disease so present in their daily lives.
