Dramatic Incidents Unfold as Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren Goes Missing Before ED Questioning

Delhi and Jharkhand capital Ranchi witnessed dramatic incidents following the Enforcement Directorate’s move to question Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in connection with the land scam case. ED said that there was no information about Soren for the last 24 hours and he was missing. Officials informed.

Yesterday, ED officers reached Soren’s residences in Delhi and Ranchi but could not locate him. It is reported that Soren left his Delhi residence on Sunday night. The phones of all those close to Soren have been switched off.

The authorities found that the chartered flight in which Soren had traveled from Ranchi to Delhi was parked at the Delhi airport. ED has seized Soren’s BMW car. The driver is being questioned. There are also indications that some documents and money were found. Meanwhile, ED received a letter from Soren’s office stating that he would appear for questioning on January 31 at 1 pm.

The BJP has seen Soren’s disappearance as an opportunity. The state BJP leadership demanded that the Chief Minister is absconding and Governor CP Radhakrishnan should take this matter seriously. Jharkhand BJP president Babulal quipped that Soren fled his Delhi residence on Sunday night fearing an investigation.

Meanwhile, the JMM and its ally Congress have come forward alleging that the Chief Minister will soon return to Ranchi and that the ED investigation against him is politically motivated. “The Chief Minister has gone to Delhi for personal reasons. He will be back soon. But the ED’s action is unnecessary, unconstitutional and politically motivated,” JMM general secretary and spokesperson Suprio Bhattacharya said. Congress leader Rajesh Thakur alleged that the concerns about Soren’s disappearance are part of a definite conspiracy and part of imposing President’s rule in the state.

The ED has announced an investigation against Chief Minister Soren in connection with the allegation of illegal transfer of land ownership by mafia. So far 14 people have been arrested in the case. On January 20, the agency had recorded Soren’s statement in this regard.

Even after he said he would appear for questioning on Wednesday, the ED arrived at the Chief Minister’s Delhi residence accompanied by armed forces, which has angered the JMM. ED is behaving like a puppet in the hands of BJP and by insulting the Chief Minister, ED has insulted the 3.5 crore people of the state. JMM also accused him of insulting.
