Castex, still as relevant as ever, faces a seven-month strike notice at RATP. The winning trio, Pécresse, Hidalgo, Castex, assure us of a happy Olympics.

A few months before the start of the 2024 Olympics, the CGT-RATP, dissatisfied with salary measures deemed insufficient in the midst of inflation, filed a strike notice from February 5 to September 9, 2024. This period includes the Olympic and Paralympic Games, increasing concerns about possible disruptions to public transport in Paris.

The notice period, which extends from Monday February 5, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. to Monday September 9, 2024 at 8:00 a.m., covers all RATP staff, all categories and services combined.

In a letter addressed to the CEO of RATP, and former Prime Minister Jean Castex, the union expressed its disagreement following the unsatisfactory offer of 0.9% salary increase in a context of high inflation and what is more, in the run-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The CGT’s demands include a wage increase of 50 index points for all, indexation to inflation and negotiations for a 32-hour working week.

These requests follow criticism from the president of the Île-de-France Region and Île-de-France Mobilités, Valérie Pécresse, concerning the punctuality of Parisian transport, but also after the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, spoke during the Télématin show. She said there were improvements, but more work needed to be done to improve transport conditions during this key period of the Olympic Games.

At the same time, RATP is facing recruitment and absenteeism challenges, which have affected the punctuality of services in recent years. An ambitious recruitment campaign has been launched, targeting 5,300 hires in 2024, after 6,600 in 2023. In addition, RATP has intensified checks on sick leave and recruited four doctors for this task, with more than a hundred dismissals following the discovery of false sick leave.
