Diplomacy in Africa: Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali turn their backs on ECOWAS

Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger withdrew from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). In a press release released this Sunday, January 28, 2024, the three countries announced their desire to leave the West African community. A decision which comes a few months after the creation of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). This is a mutual defense pact signed by the three countries concerned. As a reminder, these three countries are led by soldiers who came to power after coups d’état.
