Luck struck… with our neighbors. The EuroMillions jackpot of more than 144 million euros was won Tuesday evening by two people, one in the United Kingdom, the second in Spain, who win more than 72 million euros each, announced Française des jeux (FDJ).

Thanks to the winning combination 5, 10, 19, 27, 30 and the star numbers 5 and 6, the two lucky winners win precisely 72,274,808 euros each. In the United Kingdom, the winner will pocket the sum in pounds sterling. They have 60 days to come forward. If they do not do so, this sum will be put back into play by the organizing company.

A record of 220 million in France

Indeed, EuroMillions doesn’t just make people happy. On October 3, a Reunionese man won a million euros in the European lottery. But the player never claimed his ticket and, despite search notices issued by Française des jeux to local media, he was never found. He therefore lost his gain.

The biggest jackpot in the history of the European lottery in France dates back to October 15, 2021: 220 million euros won in Tahiti by a young Polynesian who was playing for the first time. In May 2023, three winners, in France, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, won a jackpot of 159.1 million euros, or more than 53 million each.

But the biggest absolute EuroMillions win was won last December. An Austrian found the winning combination and won 240 million euros.

Note that it’s good to be French when you play EuroMillions, because records often fall there: five of the ten biggest winnings were won in France, followed by the United Kingdom. Normal, in reality, since France has the largest number of players.
