There will be no “big night” in health. No major reform, in any case, nor announcements on the budgetary level, although eagerly awaited among the ranks of caregivers, in the city and in the hospital. In his general policy speech, Tuesday January 30, the Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, placed his action in the continuity of the five-year term, in the face of a healthcare system in crisis: “We will continue to rearm our health system”affirmed the head of government.

Pour “that there are more doctors in front of the French”, while medical demographics remain in decline and while awaiting the effects of the numerus clausus reform, the Prime Minister intends to focus on other pools of caregivers. Starting with foreign doctors, these practitioners qualified outside the European Union who already practice in the territory, and whose “regularization” has just been adopted by the government. But also those who are outside the borders: “I will appoint an emissary responsible for looking abroad for doctors who would like to come and practice in France”he said.

An announcement which should raise eyebrows in the countries where France intends to draw practitioners. Mr. Attal also targets “young French people who have gone to study medicine abroad”which he hopes to bring back.

Open gateways

Another avenue: opening gateways to certain paramedical professions – even if they themselves are under pressure. “A nurse anesthetist who has a baccalaureate + 5 and several years of career must be able, if she wishes, to enter the 3rd year of medicine”announced Mr. Attal.

On the pitch, worry competes with disappointment. “All health-related measures pale in comparison to the major difficulties of the system”reacted the representative union of young general practitioners ReAGJIR (for Autonomous grouping of young established and replacement general practitioners). “We are entitled to measuring sticks, gadget measures, all of this remains very anecdotal compared to the current crisis, the historic deficits of hospitals, the emergency services which are closing due to lack of staff, the problems of attractiveness, deplores cardiologist Olivier Milleron, member of the interhospital collective. We need a long-term course. »

In a press release published the day before, Monday January 29, the directors of CHU, the deans of the health faculty and the presidents of the establishment’s medical committee warned with one voice about a cumulative deficit of 1.2 billion euros. at the end of 2023, three times more than in 2022, and called on the public authorities to compensate for inflation. In the Assembly, the Prime Minister limited himself to stating that “the means of Ségur de la santé [n’étaient pas] still arrived everywhere »pinning “unbearable heaviness”. “This will change quickly”he said.
