The Moroccan authorities have announced the dismantling of a terrorist network made up of four alleged members of the Islamic State that planned to send fighters to the branch of the jihadist group in the Sahel, after a series of operations carried out in several cities, including Tangier. and Casablanca.

The investigations, carried out by the Central Office of Judicial Investigations, revealed that the suspects maintained coordination with leaders of the jihadist group in the Sahel with the aim of facilitating the travel of extremists to join the ranks of the Islamic State.

The four arrested in the operations, carried out in Tangier, Casablanca, Beni Mellal and Inzegane, are between 35 and 40 years old. During the raids, funds, knives and an assault rifle have been seized, according to the Moroccan state news agency, MAP.

The organization has highlighted that the operation is part of the efforts of the security services to confront the threat posed by the Islamic State and has stressed that all detainees have been placed in the hands of the judicial authorities to determine their “connections” and reveal “possible plans” for attacks in the country.
