Defeat for Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez: The amnesty law failed in the first parliamentary vote on Tuesday evening in Madrid. It was intended to protect from criminal prosecution all those who were charged as a result of a citizens’ poll on November 9, 2014 and an independence referendum on October 1, 2017 in Catalonia, northeastern Spain.
