The number of new HIV infections has fallen in the Czech Republic. Last year, doctors diagnosed 253 new cases, 39 fewer than in 2022. For two years now, the share of foreigners in new infections has been over half, as the National Reference Laboratory for HIV/AIDS Diseases of the State Health Institute announced.

The Czech Republic continues to be one of the countries in the world where the number of HIV and AIDS cases is relatively low, the reference laboratory wrote in a press release. The new infections affect 213 men and 40 women. In 87 percent of cases, transmission occurred during sex, the laboratory reported.
