The Port Authority of Avilés (Spain) has announced plans to demolish an industrial warehouse on the Raíces dock, corresponding to the old Aplacansa, with the aim of gaining concession space in the area.

The warehouse, which covers an area of 5,246 m² and is located on the left bank of the enclave, on the esplanade of the Raíces dock and to the west of the current García Munté concession, is considered obsolete and does not adapt to the types of merchandise and current operations at the Raíces dock.

As a result, it has been decided to demolish the warehouse and proceed to prepare the resulting plot. The intention is to create a new space that can be used, either with the construction of a new warehouse through external investment or by generating an open-air esplanade.

Specifically, the Aviles port area has initiated a bidding procedure to contract the demolition works of the industrial warehouse and the conditioning of the resulting plot. So, the warehouse to be demolished is divided into two zones with different typologies: the northern zone with 2,884 m² and a total height of 12 meters, and the southern zone with 2,362 m² and a total height of 14.77 meters. In both cases, it is a metal structure with a double gable roof using trusses.

It is worth mentioning that the tender has an execution period of 5 months, as well as a base tender budget of 724,913.99 euros and an estimated value of 599,102.47 euros. Likewise, the work is part of the Port Authority’s strategy to optimize the space and adapt it to the current needs of the port, seeking better use of the facilities at the Raíces dock.

Apart from this project, the board of directors of the Port of Avilés has recently granted an administrative concession to Windar Renovables for the occupation of a plot of 144,360.47 m² on the right bank of the estuary, within the service area of the Asturian enclave. .
