Dor Shimon He is one of the most fascinating and impressive contestants this season in “The Next Star”. The Mediterranean style he brings to the competition may represent our Israeliness on the biggest stage in the world, in the most difficult period our country has ever known. From program to program we discovered the talent of the beloved singer, the impressive vocal abilities, the great confidence he radiates on stage – and all of this together brought him to the final stage of the semi-finals of “The Next Star”.
A few moments before the grand final, we met Dor and talked about Eurovision, the song he would like to perform in the contest, the language of the song and the message he would like to convey to the Europeans.

Did you think you would make it to the semi-finals of “The Next Star”? Did you want to go to Eurovision?
“I reached the next star to gain exposure. The Eurovision for me was quite far away, everything started at the same time as the start of the war. Now we need to restore sanity and resilience to the country and the Eurovision is a way to bring that. The hunger grows over time…”
How do you imagine your Eurovision performance?
“Either something uplifting Israeli or a moving ballad mostly in Hebrew.”
How do you think you can stand out on the Eurovision stage to be successful?
“I will enter the stage with a drone”laughing, “For many years we have not been represented by a Mediterranean singer. We always try to look like other countries and we need to bring the Israeliness. There is also a place for Mizrahi and lovers of the Mediterranean, we need to combine all these styles.”
Are you afraid that the demonstrations and the calls to boycott Israel in the Eurovision will hurt our chances of winning and maybe hurt your career when you reach a low place?
“I think we are in a completely different place. It doesn’t matter where we end up. We have a different message to convey to the world, we need to convey our important message and bring things we want to the competition. Next year we can dance and bring fireworks. Every year there is Eurovision.”
Do you follow the Eurovision Song Contest?
“The truth is, especially in recent years. It’s a segment where we sit together, friends, family… Israel sometimes appears late at night, but I always stayed to watch. I love ‘The Remaining Silence’, but what Nate Barzilai brought was a completely different segment. Something global. Every performance by Israel makes a small tug in the heart, when you see the flag of Israel it gives pride.”
The next star for Eurovision
In preparation for Eurovision 2024, the Israel Broadcasting Corporation decided to once again select the Israeli representative for the competition with the help of cooperation with Keshet 12 and the program “The Next Star”. The corporation stated after the selection: “The decision was made, among other things, following the heavy costs of financing the preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest and sending the Israeli delegation to Liverpool – a cost that the corporation is asked to invest in new quality content”.
The cooperation between the corporation and Keshet earned Israel 6 consecutive costs to the final, at the peak of which she won Neta Barzilai in first place with the song “Toy” and brought the Eurovision Song Contest to Israel in 2019.

Eurovision 2024: This will be Israel’s 46th participation in Eurovision. Israel joined the competition in 1973 and won it four times over the years. Israel’s last win was at Eurovision 2018 with the song “Toy” performed by the singer Neta Barzilai.
