Farmers listened attentively to the Prime Minister’s announcements. Gabriel Attal organized a press conference this Thursday, while tractors have been blocking the roads of Île-de-France for four days and farmers have been mobilized for two weeks.

The Prime Minister announced, among other things, that social and fiscal support amounting to 150 million euros would be devoted to breeders. “Starting this year and in the long term,” he explained. The modalities must still be detailed in agreement with the sector.

Measures at significant cost

The Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire had already announced a tax exemption measure for cattle breeders in October. But the National Bovine Federation (FNB) expressed last week an “extremely strong disappointment” among breeders on this subject. The Prime Minister acknowledged that the “cost” of the announced measures will be significant, but he believes that it is “above all an investment (…) measures which also make it possible to support economic activity”.

In the rest of his very dense announcements – the press conference lasted almost an hour – the Prime Minister, accompanied by several ministers, announced the ban on the importation of fruits and vegetables treated with thiacloprid, the inscription of the objective of food sovereignty in the law or the strengthening of the Egalim law.
