Carmila and Carrefour Property achieve the renovation of the sello BREEAM In-use (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) with a “GOOD” level in 12 of its shopping centers, as well as a seal with the “VERY GOOD” rating. The companies thus maintain almost fifty centers in their portfolio recognized with this prestigious international certification.

These commercial spaces, which already had their corresponding certifications since 2020, managed to renew their seal last year. And furthermore, the As Cancelas shopping center (Santiago de Compostela) has achieved a higher certification, moving up a level, from “GOOD” to “VERY GOOD”.

The centers that have renewed their BREEAM certification in 2023 are El Mirador (Burgos), Tarrasa-Vallés (Barcelona), La Verónica (Antequera, Málaga), Alfafar (Valencia), San Juan de Alicante (Alicante), San Juan de Aznalfarache ( Seville), El Pinar (Madrid), Jerez Norte (Cádiz), Los Ángeles (Madrid), Los Llanos (Albacete), Atalayas (Murcia), Camas (Seville) and As Cancelas (Santiago de Compostela).

The BREEAM certificate promotes sustainable building construction that promote the environmental benefits, health and economic savings, both for the communities that surround these spaces and for the people linked to the life of the building. Thus, to renew the seals in the Carrefour Property and Carmila centers, initiatives and actions collected through energy certificates, technical audits and sustainability reports have been assessed. The BREEAM In-use seal allows managers to reduce operating and maintenance costs, as well as improve energy efficiency in existing buildings.

This documentation includes all information regarding lighting, water consumption, security contracts, waste management, results of customer and tenant satisfaction surveys of the premises, maintenance issues and even facilities to preserve biodiversity in the environment. , among many other aspects.

Renewing these certificates strengthens our commitment to sustainability, in which we constantly work to analyze and implement all possible measures that make our centers more comfortable spaces for users, and more respectful of the environment.”explains Maica Fernández, director of Concept and Construction at Carrefour Property Spain.

Likewise, for Fátima Álvarez-Cofiño, ESG Manager and transversal projects at Carmila Spain, “These certificates consolidate our ESG strategy, focused on promoting sustainability in any area of our development in shopping centers as well as reinforcing our commitment to the planet”.
