Washington: Meta CEO Zuckerberg apologized to the families of children who were victims of sexual exploitation on social media. Zuckerberg apologized during a hearing in the US Senate on complaints that 100,000 children are sexually abused by Facebook and Instagram users every day.

At the trial, the Meta CEO stated that he apologized for all the pain that the abused children and those associated with them had gone through. Zuckerberg said that this kind of experience should never come to any family.

He also stated that steps have been taken at the global level to solve such problems faced by children through social media.

Evan Spiegel, former CEO of Meta, ex-CEO Linda Yaccarino, Tik Tok CEO Shoucheu, and Discord CEO Jason Cindron are facing trial by the US Senate.

In December 2023, New Mexico took legal action against Meta in the matter. The court then said that the statistics of children being sexually harassed on both the platforms is alarming.

According to the report, underage users of Facebook and Instagram have received sexually explicit messages, including images of adults’ genitals.

Meanwhile, Meta acknowledged the risks of allowing children to receive unsolicited messages directly on Facebook and Instagram, according to the New Mexico report. But the report said that the company refused to implement safety measures in this regard and that the company was withdrawing from adopting child safety solutions due to lack of money.
