It sure seems like it’s true. The Berlusconi family has put Villa Certosa up for sale, the property on the Costa Smeralda, in Sardinia, where the former prime minister organized large parties with friends and heads of state.
The news initially appeared on Financial Times: «Silvio Berlusconi’s property in Sardinia for sale for 500 million euros»”. According to the newspaper, the Milanese real estate company would have the mandate Dilsone of the largest Italian real estate companies which is also growing in Europe. Vanity Fair contacted the company, which however did not want to comment on the matter.

Villa Certosa

It was the 1980s when Silvio Berlusconi decided to purchase the property from the publishing entrepreneur Gianni Onorato, head of the television network The Sardinian Voice. The situation of Porto Rotondoin Punta Lada, the villa is truly a uniquenot only for its vastness (we are talking about 100 hectares of land), but also for its access to the sea.

The property, subsequently expanded and renovated, is immense: 126 rooms, five swimming pools, tennis courts, a full-size football pitch, a golf course, a heliport, a 120-hectare park and an area of approximately 4500 m2. The structure also includes 4 bungalows, 2 properties called “Ibiscus” and “Cactus”, a gym, a theater, a tower and a greenhouse. A real palace!

It was 2021 when Silvio Berlusconi requested a technical appraisal of the property, valued at approximately 259 million euros, but according to the Financial Times, the sale price should be around 500 million euros precisely because it was the favorite villa of Berlusconi, who spent his holidays here. This would make it one of the most expensive properties in the world.

According to the newspaper, visits should begin in February, with possible buyers including Emirati, Saudi, Indian and American billionaires. But the sale also took place in 2012, later denied by Berlusconi himself, and in 2015, when it seemed that the Saudi royal family wanted to buy the villa for 500 million.

Now, Berlusconi’s five children have reportedly decided to sell most of their father’s real estate holdings, including the Certosa villa, partly due to rising property management costs, which have reportedly increased since 21 to 24 million.

However, there is no intention to put Villa San Martino in Arcore up for sale.
