War of Iron Swords: Defense Minister, Yoav Galant, today (Friday) toured the Hermon Brigade, where he received an overview of the activities of the alpinist unit that carries out its missions on Mount Hermon. Minister Galant met with the soldiers of the unit and talked with them about the activities during the war months. Later, the Minister of Defense and the commander of Division 210 held a situation assessment and commanders’ dialogue, together with the commander of the Hermon Brigade and the commander of the Oded Brigade.

“Even here, in the northernmost corner of the State of Israel, on Mount Hermon – the IDF forces are present, protecting, prepared, patrolling and are on full alert,” Gallant said at the beginning of his remarks, “We are carrying out three important efforts in the north – the political effort, it is a decisive effort. I discussed Yesterday with American Defense Minister Lloyd Austin, we talked about the effort to restore security and peace in a political way, so that the residents of the north can return to their homes safely.’
“The second effort is the civil effort – it is of the utmost importance,” he added, “we met the heads of the authorities, responsible for civil order, and we are directing this situation towards a possible return, when we decide that this is safe.”

“The third and most important thing for which I came to the north today is to see the preparation, the readiness of the IDF forces – from Hermon to the sea, from Hermon to the Jordan Valley, along the entire northern sector facing the Golan and facing Lebanon. The forces are on very high alert, prepared on a large scale , and this is of course another action for the Air Force to be prepared, that the noses of the planes are pointed north for any eventuality that may happen,’ he noted.
At the end, the Minister of Defense said: “If Hezbollah thinks that when there is a ceasefire in the south, it will cease fire and we will stop – it is making a big mistake.” I am saying here explicitly – as long as we do not reach a situation where the residents of the north can be safely returned, we will not stop. When we get to that, either through the series or through military means – we will be able to be calm.”
