Guarani plans to launch a new line of shirts inspired by K-Pop, marking a foray into the world of Asian fashion and entertainment. The idea came about after South Korean singer Gaeul, from the group IVE, wore a shirt inspired by the club’s 90s uniform during her time in São Paulo. The shirt “went viral” in South Korea. The announcement, made by the club’s vice-president, Adriano Hintze, reveals that the pieces will be part of a casual collection.

“After all this repercussion involving Guarani, our marketing department began to develop an exclusive line of clothing for fans, entitled K-Pop. This new collection aims to develop retro-style cloaks, inspired by the pieces worn by the artists”, explained the leader.

Guarani wants to gift the singer with a new shirt

The launch is expected to take place in June. This month, the singer will be on tour in Brazil. The intention is to present the artist with an exclusive piece. The new collection will feature references from oriental culture, capitalizing on the fascination generated by K-Pop artists. In this way, the club believes it can expand its presence in the world.

“The objective is to offer our fans unique pieces that express the club’s identity, taking advantage of the current trend. Furthermore, we are working to make this line available not only in Brazil, but also around the world”, added Hintze.

Guarani toured Japan in 1996

The curious way in which the shirts arrived to the singers dates back to 1996. At the time, the club played two friendly matches in Japan. They beat Verdy Kawasaki 2-1 and lost to Kashima Antlers 3-1. According to the former striker Adriano Raio, there was a change of uniform sponsors during the trip. Thus, the old ones became gifts.

“I remember it was at the time of changing sponsors. We received some shirts for the trip, both from the previous uniform and then with updated sponsorships. It was common to exchange shirts from games with our opponents, but we also distributed the oldest ones as gifts for those who took photos with our team”, he said.

In addition to Gaeul, pop singer Rio, from the Japanese group Niziu, also undeniably contributed to the dissemination of Guarani shirts on social media. Digital stores began to replicate the model, boosting the attention of the marketing department. Some models found on the internet were customized, with changes to the text on the internal shield and the addition of a star. These versions are finally being sold online, reaching more than 3,600 sales, being described as a versatile nylon sweatshirt for use in different seasons.
