Flying is no longer a luxury, but the dress code for flight crew is often as strict as for the employees of a 5-star hotel. The fact that these rules usually go beyond the uniform is no longer seen as up-to-date. New applicants are deterred by mandatory lipstick for women or a general ban on tattoos, and airlines are increasingly lacking young people in the cabin.

In the future, whether employees have make-up, tattoos or shave will be up to them at Swiss Air. One Spiegel report According to the Lufthansa subsidiary, new rules have now been drawn up. One of the things that got the ball rolling was the article “Geisha of the Skies – Uniform and Sexism,” which had already appeared in an employee magazine in 2019 and particularly denounced the working conditions of flight attendants.

The new rules now in force for the on-board crew at Swiss Air allow, for example, opaque thrombosis tights and unshaven legs, make-up and nail polish for men, ties for women as well as tattoos and piercings in visible places for all employees, as long as the motifs are not offensive are.

It remains to be seen how Swiss Air customers will find the new rules. However, it is to be expected that there will be few complaints as long as the service is professional and friendly.
