In a post uploaded to the actress’s Instagram account on February 2, it was claimed that Pandey had died of cervical cancer. A day later, she revealed that she was alive and breathing, sharing: “I didn’t die because of cancer. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the hundreds of thousands of people who lost their lives because of cervical cancer.”

She later explained that unlike most types of video, in order to successfully diagnose cervical cancer, women in general need to be infected and receive an HPV vaccine. Following the harsh criticism she received, she said that her intention was to “shock everyone” and start a conversation about the deadly disease. “Yes, I faked my death. Totally extreme. But suddenly everyone is talking about cervical cancer, isn’t it?”, thereby proving that she achieved her goal.
