BBVA breaks record in sustainable business in 2023

BBVA has broken a business record sustainable with 70,000 million euros in 2023, 39% more than what it reached in 2022, and which is attributed to the generalization of activity in all segments and the diversity of industries that the bank serves.

Specific, the bank explains that in 2023, by sector, sustainable mobilization in corporate business has grown by 99%; in retail banking, 43%; and in CIB (‘Corporate & Investment Banking’), 20%.

This growth is attributed to the strength of the strategy applied to each segment. In companies, it has reinforced capillarity with the creation of teams of specialists, simple sustainable solutions and has opted for transversality.

Likewise, he points out that in retail banking it has launched personalized digital solutions for the mass consumer market, with a focus on savings. At CIB, proactive sector advice and its commitment to the opportunities of the transition towards sustainability stand out.

In total, BBVA indicates that it has mobilized 206,000 million euros in sustainable business from 2018 to 2023, above the path planned to reach the 300,000 million goal set for 2025.

The bank also explains that of the total sustainable business mobilized in 2023, 78% has been allocated to climate change, and the remaining 22% has been dedicated to promoting inclusive growth, which includes, among others, financing of mortgages social services and social infrastructures, such as hospitals, schools or vulnerable entrepreneurs, where the bank has enormous activity in South American countries.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, BBVA has mobilized 21,000 million euros of sustainable business. This figure represents a new quarterly record and a growth of around 75% compared to the same period of the previous year.
