The court deducted a point for Maccabi Tel Aviv. The association ruled today (Tuesday) regarding the issue of the refinery that was thrown on the grass and hit or fell near Derrick Lucassen, the team’s brakeman, and now holds an advantage of only three points over Maccabi Haifa. Considering the goal difference between the teams, Maccabi Haifa rose to first place in the Premier League table. Maccabi Tel Aviv will appeal to the Supreme Court of the Football Association.

Along with the point reduction, Maccabi Tel Aviv was also fined 42,000 NIS. Hapoel Tel Aviv was fined NIS 31,500 for lighting the flares from its side.

As I recall, the Yellows were prosecuted for a fan riot under aggravated circumstances in the Tel Aviv derby. The prosecutor demanded to implement the new regulations and reduce one point in practice, which happened after the reform. In a normal case, the judges of the court would close the stand from which the flare/firecracker was thrown, but since the time order does not allow the closing of stands or a radius, the judges are left with penalties of reduced points and fines.

Prosecutor Gilad Bergman said during the hearing: “Many flares and throwing them on the grass that lead to the stoppage of the game. I agree that there was no bodily harm here, but it is a serious incident. The question of whether it hit the grass or the player is not important. When someone fires fireworks onto the grass it is serious and I do not understand the the discussion”

The prosecutor continued: “There is no dispute that we are committing an offense of aggravating circumstances. Firing fireworks in direct formation and flares that caused the game to be stopped. Let’s say that during a football game a crowd of fans is angry about a referee’s decision and throws chairs on the grass. This is a serious case. Someone firing fireworks into the grass is very serious. There were over 20 Flares at Maccabi Tel Aviv, the expectation to count flare-flare is unreasonable.”

The representative of Maccabi Tel Aviv, attorney Yael Margalit, said: “From the prosecutor’s point of view, even if there was no Lucasan case, the court has the authority to hand down punishments that are in the statute. In the past, we asked for a definition of what the criteria for aggravating circumstances are and it did not exist. The court says He stated this several times in his decisions”

Margalit commented on the issue of the amount of flares: “The prosecutor did not prove that it was an insufficient extension of flares (the plaintiff claims that there were more than 15 flares). If the court decides to punish, we will present similar cases in the past of aggravating circumstances without injury that only a fine was awarded for fan riots under aggravating circumstances.”

1. Maccabi Haifa – 45 points, 30+
2. Maccabi Tel Aviv – 45 points, 23+

*One point was deducted for both teams.
