Gaza: Women in Gaza shave their heads because there is no water to bathe.

The people of Gaza are without clean water because of the war and the blockade. Palestinian women told Middle East Eye that they had no choice but to shave their heads because there was no water to bathe in.

‘I shaved my head because there was no water to wash it. A few of my friends have had itchy scalps with my 16 year old daughter and 12 year old son doing the same. There is no other way to stop it except to lose hair,’ said 49-year-old Nisreen.

Even before the current war, 96 percent of Gaza’s water is unusable. This is due to the Israeli embargo since 2007.

But on October 9, Israel’s Energy Minister Israel Katz decided to cut off the water supply, and the situation has worsened.

In addition, Planet Labs BBC satellite footage showed Israeli forces seizing water treatment plants in northern Gaza on October 30 and Gaza City on November 1.

Gazans wait in line for three to four hours for a bucket of water.

Nasreen says getting water to drink is more important than bathing.

Footage emerged of Gazans bathing in seawater and washing their clothes.

Juliet Touma, spokeswoman for the UN agency for Palestine refugees, accused water of being turned into a weapon in the current conflict.
