Japanese electric vehicle manufacturer Omega Seiki and e-waste management company Attero have partnered on a project to improve the sustainability of electric vehicles.

As part of this alliance, the two companies will maximize the useful life of electric vehicle spare parts through recycling. For this they are going to recycle batteries of electric vehicles.

A target has been set to recycle 100 MW of batteries in the next 3-4 years. Omega plans to deploy more than 1 GWh of EV batteries in the next 5 years.

The EV company has deployed over 10,000 vehicles so far. Atero says it has a capacity to process 1,45,000 metric tonnes of e-waste and 11,000 metric tonnes of battery waste annually, with plans to scale up to 15,000 metric tonnes by February 2024.

OSPL has taken a focused approach to convert all its plants into green energy solar powered facilities, ensuring alignment with the principles of net zero energy consumption. OSPL’s commitment goes beyond its own operations, ensuring suppliers adopt sustainable practices and recycle 100% of its waste, thereby acknowledging the vital role of waste management in fostering a sustainable and eco-friendly future.

This strategic alliance extends beyond India’s borders to include the ASEAN and African regions, with a shared vision of contributing to a cleaner and greener global future. By leveraging their technological strength and expertise in lithium-ion battery recycling, both companies aim to make a meaningful contribution to global environmental challenges.
