Agreement between the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the basin authorities for the monitoring and territorial and environmental management of waters

After the great drought of 2022 and the first months of 2023, the Po will be monitored with satellites. In fact, an agreement was signed between the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Po District Basin Authority (AdbPo) to encourage collaboration in monitoring for territorial, environmental and water management. A collaboration is therefore initiated in the space and aerospace field with the joint and coordinated implementation of initiatives also in relation to the effects of climate change. The collaboration will materialize through pilot projects and demonstrations in the Po river basin, with the commitment to disseminating the technical-scientific contents of the research activities, promoting the dissemination of the results obtained.

The agreement

These services include integrated applications, in particular in the field of using data from missions and the Copernicus program and for water management. AdbPo has the task of planning flood risk management and ensuring the improvement of the characteristics of water bodies, also protecting aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and ensuring the quality of surface and underground water resources. The territory of the district includes eight regions and an autonomous province which amount to approximately 20 million inhabitants. Asi will make satellite data and technical-scientific support available.
