Erode: The power weavers have demanded that the deposit amount for the zero purchase tender for the school uniform project should be reduced to Rs 6 crore.
In this regard, the petition sent by the Secretary of the Federation of Tamil Nadu Powerloom Associations, Kandavel, to the Principal Secretary, Finance, Government of Tamil Nadu:
The Tamil Nadu government’s free vetti and saree program had a restriction that only contractors who want to participate in null procurement can participate with an income and expenditure of up to 30 crore rupees per year. At that time, on behalf of our association, a request was made to the Principal Secretary, Finance, and even those with income and expenditure up to 15 crore rupees were allowed to participate in the zero purchase tender by paying a deposit. As a result, more contractors participated and called for tenders, bringing down the price of wool.
Similarly, in the Tamil Nadu government’s free school uniform program, if only those with an annual income of 30 crore rupees can participate in the contract, to 6 crore rupees, there is a chance of significantly reducing the cost of the wool. This will reduce the cost to the government by several crores of rupees. Also, tenders are invited for development works like dyeing, processing, bleaching and finishing of yarn and fabrics for the fabrics produced under the Free Vetti, Saree, School Uniform Scheme of Tamil Nadu Government.
In the future, in order to benefit the industrialists in the sector in Tamil Nadu, the method of participating in the tender should be changed and new rules should be established that all those who have qualified through the Pollution Control Board can participate.
Through this, a large number of dyeing processing, bleaching and finishing businesses from Tamil Nadu will get an opportunity to participate in the tender. Also, the workers from Tamil Nadu will get employment. Companies here will get business opportunity.
