Babiniotis: Abolition of the inhuman Panhellenic and academic…

His proposal for a radical change in the way of admission to higher education, with abolition of the Panhellenic, explained Emeritus Professor of Linguistics and former Rector of the University of Athens, Giorgos Babiniotis.

“There is an immutable, but unfair system. It is inhumane. To think that within three hours the fate of a child is judged, if he has an anxiety, if he has an illness… If he does not do well in a lesson, it will come back after a year” , pointed out the professor, speaking to SKAI.

“Let what applies everywhere apply to Greece as well. The image of the student as it emerges from the three years of study at the Lyceum to give the “form” of the student with an Academic, so to speak, Baccalaureate, as needed for some time temporarily there may be a system of exams, to supplement, however, because the entrance will be based mainly on the performance in the baccalaureate. And so that there are no paragons and deviations, there is the Subject Bank, which is central and gives an objective basis to the performance of the students If this system changes, we will find the Lyceum again,” noted Mr. Babiniotis.

“The basis of admission will be the high school grade and in a school with great demand there could be a supplementary exam which will complement your score, the exam will not determine everything for you”, explained Giorgos Babiniotis.

As he pointed out, we have a High School which at the moment has fallen into disuse, into disrepair and underfunctioning, i.e. in the best period of the age of 15 to 18 students who have the greatest maturity when we can have the best educational results… There is no education. What is there? There is a level of quasi-informal tutoring that is unreliable even for the students themselves, who go to tutoring and tutoring, a situation that cannot go any further.”
