Employers have to find something to attract the most motivated young people

SPAR CEO’su KR Hans K. Reisch “In addition to the outstanding social advantages, the family working environment and the many opportunities opened up in a retail group that is successful beyond the borders of Austria also speak in SPAR’s favor as an employer,” he said and continued: “SPAR celebrates its 70th anniversary this year.” is celebrating – and the company has been training young people for just as long. Excellent apprenticeships with the most experienced trainers have always been an important issue for SPAR. However, due to demographic developments, there are fewer and fewer young people and it is becoming difficult to fill available apprenticeship positions. Employers therefore have to find something to attract the most motivated young people.“

Reisch: „Development potential in the family business“

SPAR CEO KR Hans K. Reisch expressed how important the apprenticeship issue is for him and his organization with the following words: „I am grateful to be able to keep our family business on the path to success with the best employees. As an apprentice, it is even more special to get to know the company really well and develop as an individual after the apprenticeship. There is so much potential for professional and personal development at SPAR, both at home and abroad. Many SPAR members have held various positions within the Group throughout their SPAR careers. This is also encouraged in SPAR.”

24 apprenticeships, endless opportunities

Where are apprenticeship opportunities available in the SPAR family? SPAR Austria is a very successful Central European company. The majority of employees work in food retailing. There are a total of 24 different apprenticeships to choose from, for example in grocery or delicatessen-focused retailing, as a system caterer at an INTERSPAR restaurant, or as an office manager at one of the six SPAR centers or at the SPAR head office. The group also offers a wide range of career opportunities at Hervis and SES Spar European Shopping Centres. Apprentices receive excellent training in the shop, in seminars and in SPAR Academy classes in Vienna or in the countryside. Numerous additional training programs support young people on their path to becoming experts in the food trade, such as Green Champion, FAIRTRADE ambassador or sausage or cheese expert. All apprenticeship programs of SPAR Group „Apprenticeships and Extras 2024“ listed in the appendix.

Matura (Maturity high school diploma) and Apprenticeship

At SPAR, there are opportunities for both apprenticeship and high school matriculation diploma Matura. In addition to the „Apprenticeship and Matura“ programme, SPAR also offers the opportunity to pursue a career in food retailing after completing the Matura. Apprentices study in their own vocational school classes and lay the foundations for a career in food retailing during the two-year training program. The curriculum focuses on communication and personal development, among other topics. Future managers, like all SPAR apprentices, know the market fundamentally. Apprenticeship places are limited and will initially only be offered in the states of Lower Austria (Niderösterreich) and Vienna.

Applications have started for apprenticeship training that will start in the fall.
