A recession is shown in the activity of the volcano that erupted…

There is a lull in the activity of the volcano that erupted in Iceland yesterday, which damaged roads and pipelines and left residents in parts of the Reykjavik peninsula without hot water as the thermometer read below zero.

The eruption began yesterday, Thursday, with jets of lava shooting 80 meters into the air from a 3km fissure in the ground, but by this morning the volcano’s activity had subsided.

This was the third volcanic eruption in the region, which is south of the capital Reykjavik, since December.

Schools, kindergartens, museums and other public institutions in the area were closed today, while the lava caused damage to hot water pipes used to supply geothermally heated water.

“It is a very bad situation to have this area without hot water, but there is electricity, there is drinking water and we hope to have hot water by noon,” Prime Minister Katrin Jacobsdottir told the public network RUV today.

The thermometer read -8 degrees Celsius in this area early this morning.

Satellite images released by the Icelandic Meteorological Service show the lava has reached about 4.5 kilometers west of the eruption site, as well as about 500 meters from the Blue Lagoon — a luxury geothermal spa, which was evacuated yesterday and remains closed .
