The opening ceremony of the “Youth Capital” of Azerbaijan 2024 was held in Heydar Aliyev Park in the city of Lankaran, Day.Az reported on Friday with reference to Trend.

At the beginning of the event, the national anthem of Azerbaijan was played. A minute of silence was held to honor the blessed memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev and the memory of martyrs who gave their lives in the name of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

In his speech, the head of the Lankaran City Executive Power, Taleh Garashov, noted that 2024 will be remembered for significant events in the life of the city, which was declared the “Youth Capital” of the current year.

It was emphasized that the Azerbaijani state pays great attention and care to the education and development of the intellectual potential of the country’s youth.

In his speech, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Farid Gayibov congratulated the youth representatives on the holiday. He mentioned that Azerbaijan Youth Day was established in 1997, and only two years later (in 1999) International Youth Day was established by the UN.

The minister added that Lankaran has been declared the “Youth Capital” of 2024, which will certainly contribute to the great development of the region and young people who will be able to gain new experience.

Acting Executive Director of the Youth Fund Gadir Khalilov noted that the youth of Lankaran actively take part in various events held in the region, demonstrating their abilities and talents.

Next, Farid Gayibov handed over the symbolic key of the “Youth Capital” to the head of the Lankaran City Executive Power, Taleh Garashov. Then a group of youth representatives was awarded the Presidential Prize.

The Youth Capital logo was also presented at the event.

After the official part, the event continued with a concert program.

Let us remind you that today a number of events are being held in Lankaran on the occasion of Azerbaijan Youth Day and the announcement of the city of Lankaran as the “Youth Capital” of 2024.

It should be noted that on February 2, Azerbaijan celebrates Youth Day. On February 2, 1996, with the support of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, the first youth forum was held. According to the decree signed by the great leader Heydar Aliyev on February 2, 1997, this date was declared the Day of Azerbaijani Youth.
