Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that there is no opportunity to show generosity to Rohingyas entering Bangladesh again in the ongoing conflict in Myanmar.

He said this at noon on Wednesday (February 7) at Banani Setu Bhavan in the capital.

Obaidul Quader said, I am talking to the concerned people so that we do not have any fear or concern in Myanmar’s internal conflict. I am discussing with China and India in particular. Myanmar’s ambassador to Bangladesh has been summoned. They said that they will take back those who fled to Bangladesh in the conflict.

Knowing that Rohingyas will not be allowed to enter Bangladesh again, he said that earlier the border was opened by showing kindness. Now there is no opportunity to show that generosity. They have become a burden to us. International aid is greatly reduced. How long will we bear this burden?

Referring to the recent statement of BNP leaders, Awami League General Secretary said that BNP is now extremely disappointed due to the failure of the movement and not coming to the elections. To overcome that frustration, the party leaders have decided that they will oppose the government in the name of opposition. The government is making positive but negative statements.

Earlier in the morning, a delegation led by World Bank Country Director Abdoulaye Sek held a meeting with Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at Banani in the capital on Wednesday about the progress of the project at Setu Bhaban.

The bridge minister said that the government is implementing the road safety project at a cost of about 5 thousand crores to prevent road accidents and avoid damages. This five-year project will continue till June 30, 2028.

In the press briefing, the minister expressed his personal anger about the progress of the project and said that he is not satisfied with the progress of the project. Road accidents and damage cannot be reduced.

The Minister of Road Transport and Bridge said that he will supervise and monitor the road safety project as a priority project from now on.

In response to the questions of the journalists regarding the corruption of the project, he said that strict action will be taken if anyone commits corruption.
