– I think that the title will not appeal to many psychiatrists and specialists in cognitive and behavioral therapy, and perhaps even to many readers! But I wanted to share with you some of the ideas and thoughts that come to my mind from time to time on the topic of “depression,” which I have read something about. According to SPA: The National Center for Mental Health Promotion announced the results of the mental health index in the Kingdom for the year 2022, which shows a slight decrease in the prevalence of depression symptoms, which reached 12.7% compared to the year 2020, which reached 13.8%.
– Starting from the known fact that it is necessary to seek advice from doctors and specialists in this field, but I will talk about: Is there a direct or close relationship between depression and creativity? Depression is often viewed from a negative perspective, and the depressed person may be overburdened with criticism, blame, and reproach, or even by frequently asking about his condition! The worst thing is to think that getting out of it is easy, with superficial general advice, or with the push of a button!!
– In some stages of depression, it may include a kind of isolation with oneself, whether physical from people or intellectual, even in crowds! Perhaps the isolated side of depression has a useful and useful side!! If there were tangible results behind it, for example, Ibn Khaldun isolated the people in the citadel after he was tired of the political fluctuations of his time, then in several months he produced his best book, which is the book “Ibn Khaldun’s Introduction,” which is considered to this day one of the basic sociology books. And the famous pessimistic German philosopher, Schopenhauer, who remained pessimistic throughout his life!!
Beautiful depression may make you think outside the box. In this regard, it is noteworthy that the international painter Vincent Van Gogh and the American novelist and journalist who won the Nobel Prize Ernest Hemingway for the novel “The Old Man and the Sea” lived for long periods with depression. And the famous painting “The Scream,” which was valued at $120 million!! It is by the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, who was advised by some to seek treatment for his psychological illness.
It should be noted that isolation and introversion may be characteristics similar to the symptoms of depression, and therefore some see a common relationship between them. At this stage, there may be a state of mental ignition, “glow,” resulting in creative and inventive things.
– Yes, it is not easy at all, but if the depressed, talented person can focus primarily on his talent only, he may write his name on the wall of history without knowing it!
