Russian media are showering President Vladimir Putin with praise after the interview he gave to the right-wing American TV host Tucker Carlson, reports DPA.

Many articles, particularly in state and pro-Kremlin media, have focused on the scope and potential impact of the 127-minute footage that was released yesterday.

Carlson’s interview with Putin was filmed on Tuesday in Moscow and uploaded to the website and to the profile of the American journalist in the X social network, DPA recalls.

The video has over 60 million views and over 475,000 likes, writes the Russian pro-Kremlin newspaper Izvestia. The publication quoted a senior official from the Russian-occupied Ukrainian regions as saying that the West’s attempt to prevent the spread of information had failed.

The tabloid “Komsomolskaya Pravda” published an article with the title “I am close to applying for Russian citizenship”. The material mainly contains comments from users of the X social network, who write praises for Carlson’s journalistic material.

Political observers expected the Kremlin to use Putin’s first interview with a Western talk show host since the start of the war in Ukraine for propaganda purposes, DPA noted.

“Judging by the time range of the broadcast, the main purpose of the interview was to cover up the scandal with Nadezhdin’s registration,” wrote political scientist Abbas Galyamov.

Boris Nadezhdin wanted to participate in the presidential elections as an opponent of the war in Ukraine and gathered an unexpectedly large number of supporters, but was excluded from the race just hours before Carlson’s interview with Putin was published, DPA notes.

Galyamov also reprimanded Carlson, BTA reports. The reason is that he uncritically accepted the statements of the Russian president.

The interview is Putin’s first in-depth conversation with an American interviewer since the start of his war against Ukraine almost two years ago.
