On December 12, Israel continued to bombard Gaza, saying that its campaign against the radical group Hamas had brought it to the point of destruction.

The United States and the European Union recognize Hamas as a terrorist group.

“France-Presse” writes that the heads of humanitarian organizations fear that disease and starvation will soon break out in the besieged enclave, and they are putting diplomatic pressure on Israel to step up its efforts to protect civilians.

On December 12, the fighting continued mercilessly. Hamas says clashes are ongoing in central Gaza, with witnesses saying Israel has launched deadly strikes in the south of the enclave.

It is reported that at least 12 people were killed by Israeli airstrikes in the city of Rafah, near the border with Egypt, and tens of thousands of people sought refuge. The information was released by the official “Wafa” news agency of Palestine.

Fighting continues in Khan Yunis

On Monday – December 11, Khan Yunis, the main city in the south of Gaza, was hit, which is currently the epicenter of the fighting.

“Hamas is on the brink of destruction, the Israeli Defense Forces capture its last strongholds”– Defense Minister of Israel Yoav Gallant he said on the evening of December 11.

The war began with Hamas’s attack on southern Israel on October 7. Israel said that 1,200 people were killed, 240 people were taken hostage and taken to Gaza. Some of the hostages were later released.

In response, Israel razed most of Gaza to the ground, killing at least 18,200 people, mostly women and children.

Humanitarian situation in Gaza

The UN said that 1.9 million of the enclave’s population of 2.4 million, half of whom are children, have been displaced by the war.

Israel used to call on the civilian population to go south. Now there is no place for the population to go against the background of fighting and heavy bombing in the south.

Chief diplomat of the EU Jozep Borrel said on December 11 that the residents of Gaza faced a catastrophic situation. He compared the destruction in the area with what happened in Germany during the Second World War.

Currently, only 14 of the 36 hospitals in Gaza are said to be operating at full capacity.

On December 12, the UN General Assembly will discuss a non-legal draft resolution demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. So far, the Security Council has not made such a call.
