The Pope praises and thanks the security personnel for the mission of providing the opportunity for the pilgrims arriving at the Vatican to live moments of faith and prayer and for the visitors to live in a calm atmosphere of law and order.

Pope Francis was receiving and addressing the head of Italy’s police department and other police officers and members who are on a security mission for the Holy See at the Vatican on Saturday (10/02/24) to exchange New Year’s greetings, as is customary every year.

Papa said they carry out a multi-faceted mission that includes patient defense, monitoring the scene and dealing with unexpected and sometimes dangerous situations. Pope John XXIII said that law enforcement is a heavy task that requires great moral virtues and, above all, dedication and self-sacrifice to achieve the common good, and defined them as “noble servants of the human community and architects of peace in society.”
