A brutal epilogue taints the attack and kidnapping of the sub-prefect of Bamenda 2, a few days ago in English-speaking Cameroon. While the latter has since been able to regain his freedom, the fate of two of his collaborators has just been tragically sealed. Decryption.

This is dark news that arrived from the tense regions of North-West Cameroon this Friday, February 10 in the morning. The lifeless bodies of two people, a police officer and a driver, have just been found in the locality of Nkum in the department of Bui.

The circumstances of the tragedy

According to testimonies collected on site, they were in fact two of the companions of the sub-prefect of Bamenda 2, Philip Nji Tumasang, kidnapped on February 6 in the English-speaking zone by an armed commando.

If the latter had since succeeded in regaining his freedom, his collaborators would have suffered a terrible fate in the hands of the Ambazonian rebels.

Two auxiliaries executed

According to our information, it was the bodyguard of the sub-prefect, a member of the police, and his driver who were killed in cold blood by their captors.

Their remains were found tied up in a field, bearing signs of summary execution. An unfortunately common fate for those considered “ auxiliaries » from Yaoundé by the separatists.

A liberation surrounded by gray areas

This fatal outcome for its collaborators also casts a shadow over the “ release » from the sub-prefect himself after his kidnapping. If the latter claims to have succeeded in deceiving the vigilance of his captors, certain local sources mention the payment of a ransom by the authorities.

One thing is certain: this dramatic epilogue testifies to the still extreme violence of the conflict which has raged in the minority regions of Cameroon for more than 5 years. And this despite the almost total blackout observed around this affair for a week on the official side…
