Last year, the Romanian police confiscated about 1.2 tons of drugs, 6 tons of vegetable matter, 3 tons of precursors and over 1.5 million tablets, Agerpress reports.

According to the 2023 activity report presented today by Romanian Police Chief Benone Mattei, anti-organized crime officers, together with prosecutors from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), carried out 897 operational actions in segment of the fight against drug trafficking, during which more than 3,000 search warrants were executed and 59 organized crime groups were broken up.

In the same period, about 1.2 tons of drugs, 6 tons of plant material, 3 tons of precursors and over 1.5 million tablets were confiscated, BTA reported.

The Romanian police, with the help of an authorized operator, destroyed over one ton of narcotic substances confiscated in criminal cases pending in the period 2014-2023.

At the same time, more than 4,000 persons were investigated, of which 1,268 were detained in pre-trial detention, and another 395 persons were imposed a preventive measure of judicial control.

In 2023, 11,685 referrals of a criminal nature were registered. 2,545 persons were sent to court for the commission of 4,186 crimes, according to a report on the activities of the police.
