French President Emmanuel Macron and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy discussed the situation on the front and “Ukraine’s needs” for weapons and ammunition by phone today, France Press reported.

“We talked about the situation on the battlefield and Ukraine’s defense needs, which include unmanned aerial vehicles, artillery and ammunition, electronic warfare and air defense systems,” Zelensky wrote on the X social network.

He described the conversation as “very positive and meaningful”, thanking France for its “unwavering support”.

The Elysee Palace confirmed that the two leaders discussed “the development of the situation on the ground and the needs of Ukraine”, BTA reported.

“The French president confirmed the determination of Paris to provide all the necessary support, in the long term and together with all its partners, to stop Russia’s war of aggression,” the French president’s office said.

The two leaders also discussed the bilateral security agreement that France and Ukraine plan to conclude in the near future, following the example of what Kiev recently concluded with Great Britain.

In recent weeks, France’s support for Ukraine has led to an escalation of tensions with Russia, which has condemned, in its words, Paris’ “militaristic exaltation” in the form of promises of new arms supplies to Kiev, AFP points out.
