In an interview with the website GE, Diego explained a little better behind the scenes that made him make this decision. And he also made some revelations – including what his favorite club is.

“From now on, I only watch football on television, at the stadium. I’m going to support my friends, but I’m deciding to stop playing. I’m going to enjoy my children and my family a little more. It was good, I really like my profession, but I decided that on the field, now just for fun”, said the former midfielder, who named the three most notable teams throughout his professional career.

“Without a doubt, the Sporto Guild and the Vasco marked me. Sport and Grêmio for much longer, and Vasco for being the club I supported as a child, for having won a Brazil’s Cup after many years of waiting. I’m happy to meet children my son’s age who talk about how difficult it was and about everything we represented in 2011 and 2012 with the Vasco shirt. I’m happy for the history I made with these three shirts and I’ll carry it with me forever”, he continued.

Diego Souza later explained the relationship he had with the three fans.

“What the Sport fans did to me in Recife was out of the ordinary. They hugged me, practically carried me on their laps. I just played football, dedicated myself and did whatever it took. I did what a player really has to do. I dedicated myself , I was furious and defended the colors of Sport’s shirt tooth and nail. They valued that a lot. With Grêmio, it was the same thing. I had a history with the club in 2007 and I didn’t stay for off-field issues. I was from Benfica, Grêmio was going to buy it, but they didn’t want to sell it anymore. I ended up going to Palmeiras. I already had that story and I came back after 13 years to be able to have a new relationship, playing in a different position, scoring goals… It was really cool , because I already knew and knew how playing for Grêmio works. They are two teams that, without a doubt, had a huge impact on my career because of everything the fans embraced me and made me want, like and always on the field remember what they did for me to give back “, he concluded.

Revealed by Fluminense em 2003Diego Souza also worked abroad, passing through Benfica, Metalist e Al Ittihad. His last club was Sportfor whom he competed 11 games last year, with 1 goal scored. In day November 25, 2023the striker played his last match.
