Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan agreed to update the synchronized elimination of bottlenecks on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM or Middle Corridor).

As Day.Az reports on Friday with reference to Trend, this was said by Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Railway and Water Transport of Kazakhstan Kasym Tlepov during a meeting with the Azerbaijani delegation.

Thus, the parties considered issues within the framework of the implementation of the signed Roadmap for the synchronous elimination of bottlenecks and the development of the Middle Corridor across the territories of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkey for 2022-2027.

Tlepov spoke about the ongoing work to expand the corridor’s capacity. According to him, in 2023, the volume of transshipment through the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk increased by 65 percent and amounted to 2.76 million tons of cargo.

“As part of the implementation of the Roadmap for the synchronous elimination of bottlenecks and the development of TMTM, the parties are actively working to expand the capacity of the corridor. An agreement has been reached to update this Roadmap. In turn, Kazakhstan is making efforts to develop transport and transit potential in the region and modernize transport corridors,” Kasym Tlepov emphasized.

He also shared information regarding railway projects, increasing the status of the TMTM association, digitalization of TMTM, creating a single logistics operator and increasing port capacities.

Note that the Middle Corridor connects the container rail freight networks of China and the countries of the European Union through the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey and Eastern Europe.

A multilateral multimodal transport infrastructure links ferry terminals of the Caspian and Black Seas with the railway systems of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine and Poland.

The middle corridor contributes to an increase in cargo traffic from China to Turkey, as well as to European countries and in the opposite direction.

A block train running along this corridor delivers goods from China to Europe in an average of 20-25 days, and this is one of the main advantages of this transport corridor.
