Electricity production based on solar energy in Europe in 2024 will increase by approximately 50 TWh, Rystad Energy predicts, Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax.

Production at wind power plants (WPPs) will increase by 38 TWh, nuclear – by 20 TWh, hydroelectric power plants – by 5 TWh, the analytical company expects.

Meanwhile, electricity generation from fossil fuels and other sources will be reduced by 60 TWh.

Thus, solar energy will for the first time become the leader in production growth in the entire energy sector. This will be facilitated by large volumes of newly installed capacity throughout the region and especially in Germany, which in 2023 became a net importer of electricity.

Total electricity production in Europe in 2024 will rise to 2.74 thousand TWh from 2.687 thousand TWh a year earlier, according to Rystad forecasts.

The company’s forecast covers 27 EU countries, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland and does not affect the UK.
