Solar flare recorded on February 9, 2024 – NASA/SDO
MADRID, 9 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Sun emitted a strong solar flare this February 9, which peaked at 13:14 UTC, and has been classified as X3.3.
Class X denotes the most intense flares, while the number provides more information about its strength. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), which constantly observes the Sun, captured an image of the event.
In the image you can see a bright flash from the lower right. The image shows a subset of extreme ultraviolet light that highlights the extremely hot material in the flares, and it is colored in teal, NASA reports.
Solar flares are powerful explosions of energy. Solar flares and flares can affect radio communications, electrical power grids, navigation signals and represent risks to spacecraft and astronauts.
