The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime to become the first team to win back-to-back NFL titles in 20 years. Tom Brady’s New England Patriots did it before in 2004.
The Chiefs tied the game with 19:19 left in regulation after being stopped 5 yards from the end zone. San Francisco then took the lead with a three-pointer. In American football, however, the other team gets a chance to get back into the game and if they score a touchdown they are the winner. That’s exactly what happened. Twice, Patrick Mahomes ran the ball to keep the offense going, then threw the game-winning pass to Mycole Hardman for the eventual victory.
At one point in the first part, “Kansas City” was losing 0:10. And their star Travis Kelce erupted after being substituted at a crucial moment. He started screaming in the face of his trainer Andy Reid.
The Chiefs took the lead in the third quarter when Ray-Ray McLeod III fumbled and Mahomes found Marquis Valdez-Scanting for 7 points.
Patrick Mahomes was named Man of the Game and Travis Kelce received the obligatory kiss from Taylor Swift for the triumph.
