Kazakhstan intends to increase the volume of oil supplies along the Trans-Caspian route to 3 million tons within two years, Day.Az reports with reference to the press service of the Kazakh government.

According to its data, in 2023, 1 million tons of oil were transported along this route. The plan for 2024 is up to 1.5 million tons of oil.

In 2022, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered to increase the volume of oil transportation along the Trans-Caspian corridor. In accordance with this instruction, KazMunayGas and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) entered into an agreement providing for the shipment of 1.5 million tons of raw materials per year from the Tengiz field to Baku for further pumping through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.

In general, the development of the energy sector remains one of the priority areas of work for the government of Kazakhstan. This concerns strengthening the oil and gas industry, modernizing the electrical power infrastructure and increasing renewable energy capacity, the report notes.

In particular, the throughput capacity of the Kazakhstan section of the CPC pipeline has been increased from 54 million to 72.5 million tons per year. Along with this, active work is underway to expand the Chimkent oil refinery. As a result, its capacity will increase from 6 million to 12 million tons per year, which will fully meet the domestic market’s demand for fuel and lubricants.
