The Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) and the National Institute for Food and Drug Surveillance (INVIMA) announced that the negotiation process for the establishment of sanitary requirements for the export of beef and edible offal from Colombia to the Republic of El Salvador, has successfully completed with an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) of this country.

The MAG reported the acceptance of the health certificate model for the export of these products, which sets out the requirements established to contribute to health protection and the quality and safety of the same, in order to avoid effects on the health status. of the importing country and on the health of consumers.

Among the health requirements that must be met for export are the following:

The production units from which the animals come have not been subject to any official sanitary restrictions and maintain a zoosanitary control program, under the supervision of the health authority.

The product comes from cattle that have been declared suitable for slaughter and processing of their carcasses in official ante and post-mortem inspections, and the head, pharynx, tongue and associated lymph nodes are excluded from shipment.

The establishment from which it comes has a safety management system based on the principles of HACCP and its respective prerequisite programs, and at the time of loading, the area to be used for transporting the product has been verified and declared “suitable.” for the transportation of food.

The product is suitable for human consumption and free sale. Likewise, it is subject to supervision within the framework of the National Subsector Plan for Surveillance and Control of Residues of Veterinary Medicines, Pesticides and Chemical Contaminants.

In January 2024, the ICA announced the publication of the requirements in the Health Information System for Import and Export of Agricultural and Livestock Products – SISPAP, thus making official the opening of this market that provides livestock farmers with a new opportunity to continue diversifying their commercial destinations and expand the productive system.

“The international management carried out by the ICA jointly with entities such as INVIMA, builds a path for Colombian products to reach new markets in the world. With this new achievement, we will benefit our livestock sector and strengthen relations with El Salvador, to continue opening doors and generating commercial ties. We will continue to promote exports, promote the use of open markets and support the economic development of Colombian rural families,” highlighted Juan Fernando Roa, general manager of the ICA.
