Eroica, a cycle-tourism race organized by the Italian association of the same name, will take place in Cuba this Saturday, February 10.

The island will be the first in the Caribbean to celebrate this event in which participants will travel a long route of almost 140 kilometers and an average of almost 100 kilometers along embankments in the province of Artemisa.

The founder of the event, the Italian Giancarlo Brocci, told the state agency Prensa Latina that the start will take place from the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp, a space that usually hosts delegations and international solidarity groups with the island.

After starting, the race will travel through roads in the municipalities of Caimito, Candelaria as well as other places of interest in that Cuban province.

The Italian non-profit association L’Eroica annually organizes tourist-sports events around the world and according to Brocci, it chose Cuba to debut in the Caribbean because of its “unmatched beauty.”

The island will host the test this year, but will also be the scene of it in its 2025 and 2026 editions, according to Prensa Latina.

On the other hand, it was learned that the organization of the event is in charge of the International Group of Tour Operators and Travel Agencies Havanatur SA.

After this Saturday’s race, “a salute to Havana and its people” will take place, Brocci added. It will include a non-competitive event to promote the images of the Cuban capital throughout the world, “its beauty and its architectural values.” -cultural”.

This tour will begin in Parque 13 de Marzo at 9:00 am on Sunday and will continue through the Malecón, Nuevo Vedado, Ciudad Deportiva, Boyeros, and Avenida de los Presidentes until ending with “a great popular sports festival” in La Piragua .

Eroica has been held annually in Italy since 1997 and is based on a round trip course characterized by the use of classic competition bicycles, clothing and accessories manufactured before 1987, except the helmet.

Thanks to its acceptance and recognition, the race has expanded outside of Italy, taking place in parts of Spain, Holland, Great Britain, Japan, South Africa and Uruguay.
