Foreign Minister Dr. Ambassador of Turkey Ramis Sen and Ambassador of Italy Antonio Alessandro paid a courtesy call on Hasan Mahmud.

On Tuesday (February 13) at noon, they met the foreign minister separately at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Segunbagicha in the capital.

The Turkish ambassador highlighted the third conference of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum from March 1 to 3 and expressed his hope for the effective participation of Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud. They also discussed the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Bangladesh this year. Ukraine-Russia war, war in Gaza, Rohingya repatriation, increasing legal immigration of Bangladeshis in Turkey, prevention of illegal immigration, expansion of trade between the two countries were discussed.

The Italian ambassador termed the relationship with Bangladesh as ‘special’. He said that there are about 2 lakh Bangladeshi immigrants in Italy, who are playing a positive role in the economy of both countries. He also expressed interest in taking more Bangladeshis there through legal means. In the meeting, the foreign minister sought Italy’s cooperation in the leather goods, automobile, information and communication technology sectors.

Both the Minister and the Ambassador recalled Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to Italy in 2020 and the meeting with the Italian Prime Minister on the sidelines of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization conference in 2023. Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmood proposed increasing trade and investment. Ambassador of Italy emphasized on establishment of joint Chamber of Commerce.
