The request to archive the impeachment trial to the Attorney General, made by Assemblyman Ferdinand Álvarez, is not appropriate.

The decision of Correismo assemblyman Ferdinand Álvarez to withdraw the request for impeachment against the Attorney General of the State, Íñigo Salvador, is not appropriate.

This is clear from a memorandum sent by the general coordinator of the Assembly’s Legal Department, Santiago Salazar, to the Oversight Commission this Monday, March 21, 2022.

“It is necessary to clarify that neither the Constitution nor the Organic Law of the Legislative Function contemplate the possibility or figure of withdrawal of impeachment by the applicant,” the document says.

He adds that it is up to the Oversight Commission to “know the request and verify that it meets the requirements” to be processed.

The president of the board, Fernando Villavicencio, called the commissioners at 4:00 p.m. this Monday, March 21, 2022, to hear and rate the request.

“We have to provide knowledge, begin the process of substantiating the impeachment trial with all the deadlines and if there is no interpellant we will substantiate the process ex officio, the Commission can do it,” he expressed.
